Student Eligible to File a 1040A or 1040EZ?

Previous

This is question 35 on the FAFSA.

In general, the student is eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ if he/she (and if married, his/her spouse):

A response of Yes means the student (and his/her spouse) filed or will file a 1040 or foreign return but was eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ. The student may answer Yes if he/she filed a 1040 only to claim Lifetime Learning Tax Credit and would have otherwise been eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ.

A response of No means the student (and his/her spouse) filed or will file a 1040 and is not eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ.

A response of Don’t know means the student (and his/her spouse) filed or will file a 1040 and doesn’t know whether he/she is eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ.
