Parents Eligible to File a 1040A or 1040EZ?

This is question 83 on the FAFSA.

In general, the student’s parents are eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ if they:

A response of Yes means the student’s parents filed or will file a 1040 or foreign return but were eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ. The student may answer Yes if his/her parents filed a 1040 only to claim Lifetime Learning Tax Credit and would have otherwise been eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ.

A response of No means the student’s parents filed or will file a 1040 and are not eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ.

A response of Don’t know means the student’s parents filed or will file a 1040 and don’t know whether they are eligible to file a 1040A or 1040EZ.
